Hey David there are lots of job opportunities in the market. Don't worry about the job. Some of them you can search at http://www.career-descriptions.co.uk

A Dilbert Fan

Where can Dilbert fans buy a large poster with this particular comic on it? I would like to show my support and others might want to as well.

SCOTT I AM TRYING TO HELP SOME PEOPLE GET LICENSING I HOLPE TO LEARN THE LADYS NAME WHO DOES YOUR LICENSING PLEASE LET ME KNOW I ONLY KNOW SHES NEAR SEATTLE THANKS IN ADVANCE

Conor

Very surprised you posted the e-mail addressed unobfuscated, Scott. A simple "AT" or maybe multiple "@" symbols would have gone a long way keeping spambots off poor David's e-mail address.

I, like everyone else here, wish you all the best, David.

Dave Steward

Hey Greg, if you read this, e-mail me and I'll visit with you. I moved to Fort Madison, from Burlington, to be with the woman I love. She has a very good job, that she enjoys, so it's difficult to leave. Thank you for the support.

Greg

I've been following this story for a while...it is especially interesting to me because was born and raised in Fort Madison. (Actually, just outside of town) David, if you are reading this I grew up on the Bluff Road in the gray house...if you drive past the hospital on 61 and look across the field you can see it.

Anyway, to the point...get out of FM my friend, there just isn't much going on there. As someone else suggested, you might find work at the prison, but it is a dead end. If you want casino work, I've been to half a dozen or so casinos and *all* are nicer than the riverboat.

=bg=

Sorry I don't know anyone in Iowa..but I hope someone hires you soon. And if I was your former employer, I'd be good and embarrassed.

BTTFVGO

Just read the story and watched the video on Good Morning America (link on the front page) and I just want to say, HELL YEAH!! Down with Catfish Bend. The employers are going to be absolutely humiliated once all of this is said and done!

Congratulations!

Rick

Good luck.
Just make sure there are no lemurs at the new job.

As a 43 year old professional PA, who has been temping for the last five years, I would have to go with Yuriy's suggestion. Start your own business. I know that's what I intend doing very shortly when I have completed the two courses I have signed up for.

bapesta

hey great blog. A good read.
I'm in Australia. Why not come over here. Always work on here.

I want to thank all the Dilbert fans for the support and the suggestions on my resume. The last time I was looking for work everyone just took applications, a resume was for office or professional employment.
For those of you that think I got what I deserved, I was one of the people fixing the problems made by the people that had time. As a Security Supervisor I was VERY low management at this place. Any suggestions I made were a waste of my breath. The Security Director avoided work like the plague. I actually had other directors ask me where he was when he should have been there.

Thrill

I'm a security manager in the Kansas City area and I'd be happy to hire a fellow Dilbert fan. I doubt that the pay is as good as you what you had at the casino but if you're interested in relocating, I'm at westmo2004@yahoo.com. Just email me from the address on the post.

I think you need to change Microsoft Programs to maybe the actual programs you can use; Microsoft makes A LOT of programs.

You don't need to have the line "References: Available upon request". Your prospective employer will ask for references if they are not there (which they shouldn't be, unless (s)he asks for them).

You should list the type of first aid you have, and when it expires.

You also have quite the broad spectrum of work, Dave. I think you should add a career goal, or something that tells the employer where you are heading, and what you want to be when you grow up... so to speak.

And don't just go for any old job, make sure you think about what you actually want to do, not what is available. Your previous employer was a greedy-money-sucking-pig (ie a casino owner), try to work for someone that is not like that.

I guess you get to walk around with a gun, eh? That's pretty cool. Maybe you should sneak up on your boss and "BLAM!". Just kinda shoot next to his ear.... not toward his head but the other side of his ear. Give him a little scare. I bet he'd find it so funny, he'd hire you back!

***Disclaimer : Don't shoot your gun at anyone. I don't advocate gun violence, I don't even really know what they look like, eh, being Canadian. We're not allowed to have them. Only the police and Asian gangs are allowed to carry them.***

Andy

Fantastic that you're helping this guy Scott, and please continue poking fun at the humorless in this Casino. They deserve all they get.

Dave - Hope the job hunting goes well. Where i work the *management* post the Dilbert cartoons on the notice board, and one of the directors has the PHB Doll on his desk.... not all companies suck as much as your last.

Yuriy

Seriously, I hope David created a new email address (or used an old spam-trap one) just for this purpose.

BeSmart

Be SMART, don't get a "job". Use your new found publicity and start your own security business. If you don't your going to work until you die and kick yourself in the ass you had an opportunity and didn't take it...

College and high school is just wage slave training. Some see through it and make the real money while most just accept and work.

Confused

I have to ask myself the following...
1. As a Supervisor, is he not also a member of Management?
2. Does all of this publicity actually help him or hurt him?
3. Though a potential employer would get great publicity for hiring him, what would that say about their judgment and is this someone that they would want as part of their team? Regardless of what he did, why, how or anything else, he openly mocked his management team, WHICH HE WAS PART OF, and insulted them as well as his co-workers.

I am not saying Dave does not deserve to work. Everyone that wants to work should be allowed to work. However, he is also in an area that has numerous companies expanding and adding jobs. Though they may be industrial related, they probably pay more than he was making.

Ft. Madison is also the HOME to the Iowa State Penitentiary, and it is HUGE...how is it that a man with 15 YEARS of Security Experience can not apply and be hired by the State of Iowa at a PENITENTIARY?

I don't know. I feel for him., but at the same time, I feel for the other 700+ employees that are still working hard at that casino entertainment complex and making an honest days pay WITHOUT insulting their bosses or themselves. KUDOS to those who are NOT sitting around waiting for others to do their 'work' for them. Dave could just as easily have been laid off as part of a labor reduction with the other 150+ employees. WHERE ARE ALL OF THE PEOPLE JUMPING UP TO HELP ANY OF THEM THAT MAY STILL BE LOOKING FOR WORK? Instead, we iconize this guy.

I think that casting him as Wally says it all.

Zed

This has been said before, but needs to be reemphasized:

GET A PROFESSIONAL E-MAIL ADDRESS, something like first.last@gmail/yahoo/whatever

Al

I'd try to get him a job where I work, but I think he's been punished enough already.

Just Me

Scott, why not dispatch Bob the dinosaur to Catfish Bend?

Gametheory

David,

I just wanted to wish you good luck on your job search. I've been there, I know it's not easy, but keep on pushing and soon you'll be rewarded.

Jobs come and go, but in your case you gained something truly lasting: a great story to share with friends and family that will be with you for the rest of your life!

Greetings from Switzerland,
A

Suki the Ocicat

Good luck, David!!
